Job Description
As Transport Manager you will ensure the effective operation of the Transport function, drive continuous improvements and further develop integrated transport solutions to deliver a premium and cost effective service. You will produce, agree & manage the Transport budget, accounting for any variances. Take a proactive approach in order to fully engage any new initiatives at the depot, ensuring the integration of projects is successful in line with business needs.
Key Duties;
1. Proactively seek optimisation without affecting service
2. Integration and control of new cross dock clients where applicable
3. Increased vehicle fleet to include offsite parking
4. Responsible for the interface between every area of the operation to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
5. Direct, motivate and develop team members to equip them with the skills to lead and manage their teams
6. Ensure compliance with all statutory legislation in regard to Health & Safety and statutory Transport rules and regulations
7. Managing a group of approved 3rd party hauliers on national and international journeys
8. Responsible for communication cascades throughout the transport operation
9. Propose, agree and implement service standard agreements for products with customers in conjunction with other areas of the business
10. Consider proposals and implementation of improvements methods in regard to staff, operational changes to transport associated activities which will improve efficiency and/or levels of performance
11. Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff and products
12. Support the Company in regard to reducing its carbon footprint, for example recycling initiatives
13. Client Interface with all major customers including implementation meetings, customer reviews and other ad hoc meetings as required
14. Work to tight deadlines on new initiatives
15. Provide effective leadership and direction to the Transport Department
16. Ensure the Companies Operator Licences are maintained efficiently and accurately at all times. Contingency planning to avoid Company exposure to the Operator Licences
17. To drive through continuous improvement initiatives
18. Proactive management of new legislation
19. Effective Manage the Transport Department through KPI measures
20. Effective day-to-day decision making for administration teams
21. Retailer Interface in regard to Key supplier management for quality and cost
22. Significant UK and continental supplier collection responsibilities
23. Achieve efficiency through managing, planning and controlling staff on a daily basis, and an ongoing basis through objectives
Qualifications
24. Professional and confident communication skills
25. Good management skills in terms of both Contract management and man management
26. Operational experience in a food transport environment
27. Pragmatic approach to problem solving
28. Significant transport experience in FMCG environment
29. Planning and organising skills, high level of numeracy
30. Negotiating skills, ability to influence and steer
31. Personal motivation and confidence to have a positive impact.
32. Highly tolerant of change with the ability to challenge the status quo and drive change within an evolving business organisation
