Community & Business Development Officer Key Details Salary: £15.05 per hour Hours: 14 hours per week, including at least 4 hours on Saturdays Reports to: Clerk & Chief Operator (CCO) Works with: Market, Hub & Facilities Lead; Estates & Projects Lead; Customer and Trader Services Officer; traders, tenants, and community partners Role Purpose To deliver community, cultural and business development activity that: • Increases footfall and engagement within Freeman Street Market • creates and supports events and community programming • develops business engagement and occupancy opportunities • Supports trader and tenant success • Identifies and applies for funding • Promotes the Market, Hub, and Freemen’s heritage – including Freemen membership • Strengthens the organisation’s profile and sustainability Core Responsibilities 1. Community & Partnerships • Build relationships with community groups, schools, cultural organisations, and local businesses • Develop opportunities for community use (events, workshops, exhibitions) • Represent the organisation at local forums and engagement activities as required 2. Business Development • Promote Market and Hub spaces to increase occupancy and repeat use of community/event space • Support recruitment and onboarding of traders and tenants 3. Events & Programming • Plan and deliver events to drive footfall (seasonal, cultural, community-led), working in consultation with traders and tenants. • Coordinate partners, performers, and suppliers • Work with operational teams to ensure events run safely and smoothly • Gather feedback and evaluate event impact 4. Marketing & Promotion • Produce content (events, traders, heritage, promotions) • Support digital marketing and website updates • Raise awareness of the Freemen’s heritage and activities 5. Funding & Projects • Identify funding opportunities • Support grant applications and project delivery • Assist with monitoring and reporting for funded projects 6. Data & Reporting • Track footfall, participation, and engagement • Provide updates and reports to the CCO • Use insight to inform future activity 7. Customer Service & Operations • Provide front-of-house support (including Saturdays) • Handle enquiries, promote activities, and support payments • Maintain strong communication with traders and tenants 8.
