We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director to work at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke. The role involves providing senior medical cover on Knightstone Ward, a 15-bed highly specialised service for women with personality disorder and complex needs.
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, overseeing and maintaining care for all ward inpatients, and responsible for auditing medical services to ensure quality in accordance with GMC standards and other guidelines.
Additionally, you will serve as the Medical Director at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke, a 71-bed hospital offering emergency admissions for men and women, and pathways for women’s rehabilitation, including services for personality disorder.
This is a full-time position with 0.2 WTE as Medical Director and 0.8 WTE as Consultant Psychiatrist.
The hospital is situated on over 16 acres of landscaped grounds overlooking the Bristol Channel, outside Weston-super-Mare. It provides a peaceful, therapeutic environment with therapies including CBT, Schema Therapy, EMDR, and DBT.

Main duties and Responsibilities
As a Medical Director you will:
* Ensure optimal clinical outcomes for patients
* Lead clinical practice and exemplify operational excellence
* Provide leadership and monitor performance of medical staff
* Supervise all consultants, ensuring supervision of SDs and ASs
* Provide expert support within the service and to the wider team
* Ensure quality and compliance with standards and regulations
* Work with colleagues for integrated, whole-person care
* Coach, mentor, and train colleagues
* Maintain communication with medical staff and facilitate meetings
* Assist in recruitment and retention of medical staff
* Involve medical staff in clinical governance
* Collaborate with hospital management on CQC outcomes
* Chair medical advisory meetings and participate in Medical Directors meetings
* Liaise regarding fitness to practice concerns with the Responsible Officer and Regional Medical Director

* Provide high-quality care on Knightstone Ward

* Manage patient treatment plans with the multidisciplinary team
* Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations
* Perform investigations, diagnosis, and treatment
* Conduct ward rounds, reviews, and audits
* Implement risk assessments and clinical governance
* Supervise reports for tribunals and attend hearings
* Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for patient transfers and leave approvals
* Maintain accurate patient records
