Solicitor – Commercial Litigation Contract: Permanent Salary: Dependent on experience Office base: Wigan, WN3 5BA – hybrid working available after a period of onboarding, with a minimum of 2–3 days per week in the office Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Are you an experienced Solicitor looking to take the next step in your commercial litigation career? The Role As a Solicitor in our Commercial Litigation team, you will advise and assist clients across a broad spectrum of civil and commercial disputes, with a particular emphasis on property‑related litigation. This is a varied and fast‑paced role where you will manage your own caseload, provide clear and practical legal advice, and represent clients confidently and professionally. You will work closely with colleagues across the firm, contributing to strong client outcomes while supporting the financial and operational success of the department. What You’ll Be Doing Managing your own caseload of commercial and civil litigation matters, including property disputes Meeting with clients, providing advice, and responding to queries by phone, email, and in person Drafting pleadings, correspondence, and other litigation documentation Preparing cases for court, including instructions to Counsel and compliance with court deadlines Representing clients in court where appropriate Undertaking full risk assessments on all matters and ensuring compliance with SRA rules and internal procedures Managing work in progress effectively to ensure accurate time recording and conversion to paid profit Actively managing disbursements and debtors to minimise financial risk Delegating work appropriately to maximise efficiency, profitability, and team development Identifying cross‑referral opportunities and promoting the Stephensons brand Maintaining high standards of client care and compliance with complaints procedures About You We welcome applicants with a wide range of strengths, thinking styles and lived experiences. We’re looking for someone who can: Manage a busy litigation caseload with confidence and attention to detail Work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues Remain calm and organised under pressure Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and stakeholders Handle sensitive information with discretion Take a commercial approach to case management and time recording Essential: You will need: To be a qualified Solicitor (0–2 years PQE) with a current practising certificate (Applications from individuals with more experience will also be considered) Experience managing your own civil and/or commercial litigation caseload Up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant litigation law and procedure Strong drafting and advocacy skills Good understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules and professional conduct obligations Excellent organisational and time‑management skills Confidence using IT systems and willingness to learn new technologies A flexible and proactive approach to work Desirable: It would be beneficial, though not essential, if you also have: Experience using case management systems Previous involvement in property‑related disputes Experience supervising or supporting junior team members Familiarity with client care and complaints procedures We also look for individuals who embody our brand values: approachable, flexible, inclusive, resilient, and supportive.
