Job Description
Are you passionate about developing people and making a difference for children? We're looking for a Training Officer to join our team at Lansdowne Secure Children's Home.

As Training Officer, you'll play a vital role in helping staff at Lansdowne Secure Children's Home feel supported, skilled, and inspired in their work. From welcoming new colleagues through inductions to keeping everyone's knowledge fresh with refresher sessions, you'll make sure staff have the confidence and tools they need to do their best. You'll also be on hand to offer tailored support when challenges arise, working closely with the Workforce Development Manager and Duty Managers to spot issues early and respond with practical solutions.

You'll have the chance to shape our Workforce Development Plan, ensuring training is not only high quality and trauma-informed but also meaningful and relevant to daily practice. By drawing on insights from data, incidents, and the lived experience of children, you'll help design a programme that combines best practice with fresh ideas, working alongside both internal specialists and external providers.

Most importantly, this role is about people. You'll coach, mentor, and guide staff so they feel confident in their roles and proud of the work they do. You'll support new and probationary staff, help colleagues achieve essential qualifications, and make sure learning is always shared across the team. Above all, you'll help strengthen Lansdowne's "one team" ethos: a culture of kindness, professionalism, and high aspirations for every child we care for.

As a Training Officer some of your key tasks include:

* In collaboration with colleges from Education, Health and Care, design, deliver and evaluate a range of training programmes and information giving briefings to ensure that staff are invested in and developed into exceptional practitioners, and are supported in their day-to-day work.
* Support the principles of equality and diversity across the home and in relation to all children, staff and visitors.
* Support the homes Workforce Development Strategy through acting as a QCF Assessor (Training will be provided, must be willing to work towards) and supporting staff to take a continuous development approach to their engagement skills, utilising coaching and modelling as required.

The people we are looking for in this vital position will have:

* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
* QCF Assessor (or willingness to undertake.)
* ICT skills and understanding of how to use digital technology to support and enhance service delivery.
* Experience of Crisis Management and managing difficult situation.
* Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or equivalent such as professional qualification in social work and/or other relevant subject area to degree level.

We will be using your Supporting Statement to shortlist so please be sure to address how you meet all the criteria in the person specification, drawing on any relevant work/life experience, education, or personal interests.

Please download the Job Description and Person Specification for more information.

Interviews will be held in person on 6th November at Lansdowne Secure Children's Residential Home.

As a Training Officer, you get to use your skills and experience to make a real difference every day. You'll see the impact of your work in how staff grow and how children thrive, while helping to build strong relationships and a culture where learning, support, and collaboration come first.
