Job Description:
We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join the Radar Test Equipment delivery team at Leonardo in Edinburgh. In this role, you will develop hardware-based equipment that performs various testing, from design verification through acceptance to repair on our range of Radar products.
You will work within a multi-disciplined delivery team, responsible for the full engineering lifecycle, from requirements capture to final delivery. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled team during a period of significant growth within the Radar sector. Initially, the role will focus on equipment supporting Antenna testing, with future work likely involving other key Radar system elements.

What you will do:
1. Design and develop hardware across the full lifecycle: requirements analysis, conceptual, preliminary, detailed design, procurement, manufacturing support, integration with software and firmware, acceptance testing, and delivery.
2. Create high-quality, robust data packs, document work products, and manage configurations. Provide progress reports to your line manager.
3. Complete tasks following established processes and procedures.
4. Participate in engineering process improvements.
5. Collaborate closely with Software and Firmware engineers to resolve system-level integration issues.
6. Depending on experience, provide technical direction, project deliverables, and mentorship to team members.
7. Review engineering estimates, advising on cost and time reduction, compliance, and risk management.
8. Lead technical direction to ensure work packages meet standards.
9. Support customer and user engagement, translating requirements into technical solutions.
Experience:
You really must have:
* A degree in Electronic Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
* Self-motivation and a desire for continuous development.
* Ability to analyze system documents and derive detailed requirements independently.
* Effective communication skills across disciplines.
* Willingness to work independently or as part of a team.
* A methodical approach to hardware design.
* Ability to interface with suppliers of key components.
It would be nice if you had:
* Broad engineering experience across product lifecycle and multiple projects.
* Experience with customer/supplier relations and multidisciplinary teams.
* Design experience in RF/Microwave/Antenna, Digital/Analog, Power Supplies, High-Speed Digital, or common interfaces like RS422, 1553, I2C/SPI, Ethernet.
* Knowledge of requirements management tools such as DOORS.
