Job Purpose
As an Associate Director, you will join the Environmental team in providing a range of specialist environmental support to internal and external clients and will have an increasing workload across different sectors.
The Role
We have an opportunity for an Associate Director to join our team and work as part of a growing independent consulting engineering company. You will join a talented, diverse team of designers, engineers, and technical specialists with a unique working culture. As an Associate Director, you will lead a small team of environmental consultants to develop and deliver coordinated, collaborative, innovative, and technically excellent design solutions that respond to our clients' briefs and vision.
Main Responsibilities
* Leading a team of environmental consultants.
* Collaborating with engineers and environmental consultants to consider all aspects of design development, providing guidance, advice, and ensuring compliance.
* Working with clients to develop a strong scope and programme.
* Participating in peer reviews of documentation and writing technical reports.
* Managing project budgets and P&L responsibilities.
* Preparing proposals and bid documentation.
* Overseeing and delivering thermal comfort and overheating assessments, particularly using Dynamic Thermal Modelling.
* Collaborating with digital designers to generate accurate 3D models and data analysis.
* Producing high-quality technical reports and providing strategic advice to clients.
* Managing multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery and client satisfaction.
* Building and maintaining strong client relationships, promoting expertise in building physics.
* Identifying new business opportunities and supporting the growth strategy of the consultancy.
* Mentoring and developing talent, supporting their technical and professional growth.
Key Qualifications and Skills
* Relevant educational qualification in building sustainability or energy.
* Understanding of GLA and local borough planning requirements.
* Understanding of Building Regulations Part L.
* Knowledge of industry accreditation schemes such as BREEAM, WELL, NABERS, Fitwel, etc.
* Familiarity with energy and carbon assessments using dynamic simulation packages such as TAS and IES.
* Ability to carry out domestic and non-domestic energy assessments for planning.
* Knowledge of whole lifecycle carbon assessments, preferably using One Click LCA.
* Experience in advising on and integrating low-carbon and resilient solutions into building design.
* Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation.
* Some project and financial management experience.
* Accredited domestic/non-domestic EPC assessor.
* Accredited BREEAM/WELL assessor.
* Knowledge of Passivhaus standard.
* Knowledge of operational energy modelling processes (DfP/CIBSE TM54).
* Experience in project and financial management.
