Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our GP Practice Team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing multi-disciplinary team who are focused on improving medicines optimisation, safety and patient care within the GP Practice. You will play a vital role in providing technical medical management services to the Practice to improve the uses of medication. You will also provide a range of medicines management skills to our patients, as well as liaising with Practitioners and Practice staff to ensure that patients are provided with the most cost effective medicines and that they get the best from their medications.
Responsibilities
* To provide advice and support to GP's staff and Patients in the improvement of prescribing safety, quality and cost effectiveness.
* To assist with audits and medication safety initiatives
* Help our Practice Staff with medication queries
* Support Quality Improvement projects and prescribing initiatives across the Practice and PCN
* Refer to the Job description for a further list of duties
* Manage and support safe, effective repeat prescribing processes across the GP Surgery.
* Identify and help resolve medication-related issues, escalating as appropriate.
* Provide patient education and support regarding medicines use, storage, and disposal.
* Work with GPs, practice nurses, social prescribers, and mental health professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
* To reduce waste, minimize risk and improve the repeat prescription process.
* To deal with non-routine, non-clinical medication queries that require follow up and problem-solving techniques.
* Review medicines safety alerts and other alerts distributed on the cascade system, recommend and implement necessary actions arising from these.
* To undertake practice based ICB and PCN project work to make cost savings on the prescribing budget.
* To respond to medication queries from staff in a professional manner and deal with these in a timely manner.
* Provide medicines optimisation advice to the team to promote the safe, effective quality and cost-effective use of medicines.
* Review data reports and dashboards to identify areas for action
* Carry out housekeeping within patient records such as medicines synchronization
* Participate in Practice Education meetings to promote issues relevant to prescribing and medicines optimisation to QOF and enhanced services.
* Take a central role in the clinical aspects of Shared Care protocols
* Support the Practice with antimicrobial stewardship initiatives to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing.
* Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within the GP Practice setting, including undertaking clinical audits supporting quality improvement measures.
* Stay up to date with current policies and procedures and develop Practice SOPs and guidelines under the instruction and support of the lead GP.
Qualifications and experience
Experience
* Essential: Experience in General Practice, PCN or Medicines Optimisation Team.
* Desirable: Working in a community, hospital, or primary care pharmacy setting as a Pharmacy Technician
Skills and knowledge
* Essential: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, IT-literate (e.g. EMIS, SystmOne), organised and methodical
* Desirable: Knowledge of QOF, IIF, and structured medication reviews; Understanding of long-term condition pathways, and NICE guidance
Qualifications
* Essential: Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician
* Desirable: Accuracy Checking Technician qualification
