Fusion People are looking for a QS for a temporary role for a client of ours, initial project in Worthing.
Job role will be for 3-4 days a week :
Key responsibilities:
Cost Management & Reporting
Prepare, monitor, and update project budgets, cost plans, and cash‑flow forecasts.
Manage cost reporting including CVRs, value‑tracking, and earned value analysis where required.
Evaluate actual costs vs. allowances and highlight variances early.
Support monthly commercial applications and revenue forecasting.Procurement & Supply Chain
Prepare enquiries, evaluate supplier quotations, and produce procurement recommendations working alongside the design, pre-construction, and procurement teams.
Procure subcontractors (civil works, pipe installation, welding, energy centre packages, M&E, insulation).
Draft, negotiate, and administer subcontract orders and supply agreements.
Ensure suppliers comply with specifications, standards, and DHN design requirements.Contract Administration
Administer NEC, JCT, or bespoke contracts across district heating schemes.
Prepare, submit, and negotiate compensation events, variations, early warnings, and delay notices.
Ensure all commercial activities comply with contractual obligations.Valuations & Applications
Prepare monthly valuations and applications for payment to clients.
Work with the project teams to measure completed works including heat mains, chambers, weld counts, plant installations, and HIU fit‑outs.
Assess subcontractor applications, certify payments, and agree final accounts.Risk, Change & Opportunity Management
Identify, and quantify commercial risks and opportunities early in the project cycle.
Maintain change registers and support project managers with commercial impact assessments and cost recovery scenarios.
Recommend value‑engineering options and support optioneering studies.Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with designers, engineers, site teams, and commercial leadership.
Attend project progress meetings and present commercial updates.
Interface with clients, auditors, and local authorities as required.Records, Compliance & Governance
Maintain accurate records including as-built quantities, plant logs, and daily site returns, and drive the use of Procore software.
Ensure compliance with company governance, audit trails, and financial processes.
Support internal and external audits linked to funding, sustainability criteria, or regulatory requirements.
Collaboration & Leadership
For candidates taking senior positions the ability to provide mentorship and guidance for more Junior members of the team is required
Work with other areas of the business to identify, recommend and implement efficiency improvements across all process.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Essential
Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Construction Management.
Experience working as a QS on civil engineering, utilities, M&E, or district heating projects.
Strong understanding of buried utilities, pipe installation, M&E systems, and construction sequencing.
Good working knowledge of NEC and/or JCT forms of contract.
Proficiency in cost‑management tools (e.g., Excel, Cemar, or similar).
Strong numerical, analytical, and negotiation skills.
Desirable
Experience specifically in district heating, energy centres, or low‑carbon infrastructure.
Professional membership (RICS, ICES, CICES, CIOB).
Knowledge of regulatory standards (CIBSE CP1 Heat Networks Code of Practice, UK heat network guidelines).
