About the Role
As a 1:1 SEN Support Assistant, you will work directly with a pupil who requires additional help to access the curriculum and engage positively in school life. You will support the child’s learning, emotional regulation, and social development, implementing strategies set out by the SENCO and classroom teacher. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys making a measurable difference in children’s lives.
Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with additional learning or behavioural needs.
* Assist with academic tasks, helping to adapt activities to suit the pupil’s individual learning plan.
* Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation through patience and clear communication.
* Support with personal care when required, ensuring dignity and safety at all times.
* Collaborate with the teacher, SENCO, and parents to track progress and share feedback.
* Promote a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.
Qualifications
* Experience supporting children with SEN or additional needs (school-based or similar setting).
* Knowledge of strategies for autism, ADHD, or communication difficulties is desirable.
* Empathy, consistency, and strong communication skills are essential.
* Right to work in the UK and a child-only Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to apply for one).
