Senior Clinical Counselling Psychologist / Psychological Therapist
We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Psychological Therapist or Psychologist to join our Pain Management team as part of an integrated multidisciplinary service. The primary base for this role will be Southend Hospital, with additional working at Orsett or Basildon Hospital within the MSE network. The team works with complex mental health patients experiencing complex pain management issues.
Responsibilities
* Conduct psychological assessments and deliver 1:1 short‑term therapy for patients suitable for brief psychological interventions.
* Facilitate onward referrals to appropriate services when needs cannot be met within the Pain Service.
* Assess patient suitability for the Pain Management Programme (PMP) and participate in the multidisciplinary provision of PMPs.
* Provide consultation, psychological education and advice to colleagues within the multidisciplinary team.
* Monitor and collate clinical outcome data, reporting these to the team and senior management.
* Initiate and manage audit and research projects relevant to practice within the Pain Service and disseminate outcomes.
* Provide clinical and line‑management supervision to Band 7 Psychological Therapies staff across all hospital sites.
Qualifications
* Professional doctorate or equivalent qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology or an equivalent qualification in Psychological Therapy.
* Formal training and experience in clinical supervision of accredited staff and trainee psychologists/psychological therapists.
* Registered with a PSA recognised accrediting body (HCPC, UKCP, BACP, BABCP) and works within the appropriate professional code of conduct.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
Experience
* Appropriate demonstrable clinical experience in an acute hospital setting and in both inpatient and community mental health services.
* Experience working with patients presenting with complex needs, particularly at a senior clinical level in Pain Services.
* Skills in the use of psychological assessment, intervention and management requiring sustained and intense concentration.
* Knowledge of psychological therapies commonly used with this patient group.
* Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the accrediting body.

* Demonstrable clinical experience in an acute hospital setting and in inpatient or community mental health services.
* Experience with complex patient needs and a senior clinical role in Pain Services.
* Skills in psychological assessment, intervention and management.
* Knowledge of relevant psychological therapies.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Desirable
* Previous experience in Pain Services.
* Involvement in group work, particularly with Pain Management.
* Experience supporting staff groups.
