Job Summary
A vacancy has become available for a highly motivated Scrub Practitioner to join our Orthopaedic scrub team and work within our dynamic theatre department at The Royal Gwent Hospital. The theatres at The Royal Gwent Hospital are very busy, covering specialities including Orthopaedics, General Surgery, ENT, Breast Surgery, Gynaecology and Urology. We are a supportive, friendly department strongly centred on teamwork and patient care.
Main duties of the job
Ideally, the candidate will have experience of working within the operating theatre; however, full support and training will be given to any motivated candidate. A full orientation programme will be provided. Candidates are expected to demonstrate commitment to personal development and a keen interest in the progression of theatre services and peri‑operative care. The Royal Gwent offers an elective‑only service from Monday to Friday and also supports other Health Board sites when required, so the successful candidate must be flexible to the service. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be reliable, hard‑working and work well within a team. The applicant must be a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner. Speaking Welsh is desirable but a Welsh and/or English speaker is welcome to apply.

Essential Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (RN) holding current registration with NMC or Operating Department Practitioner registered with HCPC. Consideration will also be given to students waiting to qualify in the next 4 months and applicants returning to practice.
Desirable Qualifications
* Degree level qualification.
Essential Experience
* Theatre experience not necessary as full training will be given.
Desirable Experience
* Previous experience working in a theatre environment.
Essential Skills
* Good liaison, negotiating, persuasive, motivational, empathic skills. Adaptable and flexible approach to work, IT literacy, able to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate individualised and evidence‑based care.
Desirable Skills
* Appreciation of audit and research methodologies, able to demonstrate a problem‑solving approach.
Essential Knowledge
* Understanding of the various roles within theatre and an interest in theatre practice.
Desirable Knowledge
* Informed consent guidelines.
Surgical safety procedures and guidelines NATSSIPS/LOCSSIP.
Essential Personal Attributes
* Good organisational skills.
Excellent communication skills, including providing and receiving complex, sensitive, or contentious information.

* Ability to speak Welsh.
