We are seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic External Hockey Coach to support Worksop College’s hockey provision across the Autumn and Spring terms only. The coach will work with both boys’ and girls’ hockey teams, deliver scholar sessions, indoor hockey preparation, extra-curricular clubs, and support weekend fixtures.
The candidate must be capable of umpiring to a 1st XI school standard and have the ability to work across all age groups (Years 7–13).

Set in 400 acres of stunning North Nottinghamshire woodland, Worksop College and Ranby House has the benefit of a sprawling campus, with some of the best facilities in the county. The major cities of Sheffield, Doncaster and Nottingham are an easily commutable distance and give the school a secure and rural feel, whilst enjoying a comfortable proximity to city life.
In addition, Worksop’s location on the edge of Clumber Park and with ease of access to the A1, M1 and East Coast mainline make it an ideal place to live and work. Major university cities Leeds and York are easily accessed by road or rail, as are Newcastle, Edinburgh or London, allowing for academic visits or personal enjoyment in the generous holidays. The Peaks, the Dales, even the Borders are also within easy reach.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver high-quality coaching sessions for boys’ and girls’ hockey teams across all Senior School age groups.
* Lead and assist in games afternoons (4–5 hours/week).
* Deliver targeted scholar coaching sessions (3–5 hours/week).
* Support the delivery of extra-curricular hockey clubs (2 hours/week).
* Prepare and coach teams for indoor hockey tournaments and fixtures (2 hours/week).
* Attend and support Saturday morning fixtures (2 hours/week).
* Umpire at 1st XI standard fixtures.
* Support indoor hockey preparation and tournament coaching.
* Contribute to the organising and running of College tournaments and events (additional paid days at £100/day).
* Work collaboratively with the Director of Sport, Director of Hockey, and other external coaches.
* Promote positive coaching behaviours, team culture, and a safe and inclusive training environment.
Desirable:
* Links within local and regional hockey clubs, schools, and organisations to enhance the College's hockey reputation and player opportunities.
* Ability to support the wider sporting life of the College when required.
Requirements:
* Recognised coaching (EH Level 2) and umpiring qualifications (EH L1).
* Proven experience coaching and umpiring hockey at 1st XI school or club level.
* Experience working with both boys and girls across a range of age groups.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.
* Driving licence is essential due to off-site fixtures and tournaments.
* Willingness to work weekends and evenings as required.
Terms:
* Fixed hourly contract for Autumn and Spring terms only (16 hours per week average).
* Self-employed basis with invoicing to the College monthly.
* Additional tournament days paid at £100/day (outside of the contracted hours).
