Role: Lead AWS Engineer / Cloud Architect
Location: Remote-first (Cardiff twice a month)
Salary: Up to £85,000 (flexible)
Overview
A SaaS product company is hiring a Lead AWS Engineer to take ownership of its cloud architecture and help improve the reliability, scalability and security of its platform. The role is hands-on with a strong focus on AWS engineering, cloud architecture, DevOps, automation and infrastructure-as-code.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, build and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure, covering VPCs, networking, IAM, security and monitoring
* Re-architect parts of the AWS platform to improve performance, scalability and cost efficiency
* Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation
* Work with serverless technologies and cloud-native components across the AWS ecosystem
* Contribute to application delivery using CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
* Develop distributed systems, APIs and data workflows in a cloud environment
* Run technical evaluations, proofs of concept and architectural reviews
* Support and guide engineers on AWS best practice and cloud standards
Required Skills and Experience
* Strong hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch and IAM
* Background in software engineering with any modern programming language (Node.js, Java, C#, Python or similar)
* Experience with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines and automation
* Knowledge of SQL databases, NoSQL data stores and data pipelines
* Understanding of serverless computing, distributed systems and cloud-native patterns
* Ability to document and communicate architectural decisions clearly
* AWS certifications are an advantage

Hours: Monday-Friday, full-time
