Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dedicated team at the Breast care unit as an Enhanced practitioner. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert, patient-centered care to individuals across the Breast care unit supporting them through screening, diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

Working closely within a Multidisciplinary team, you will deliver compassionate support, tailored education, and clinical expertise to improve outcomes and empower patients and families.

We are seeking practitioners with experience in Breast care to join our team.

Main duties of the job

1. Assess, differentially diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate individual treatment interventions within a set field of practice for patients by virtue of enhanced clinical judgement and close liaison with members of the MDT
2. Use expertise and decision-making skills to inform clinical reasoning approaches when dealing with individual presentations and complex situations, synthesising information from multiple sources to make appropriate, evidence-based judgements and/or diagnoses.
3. Initiate, evaluate, and modify a range of interventions which may include prescribing medicines, therapies, lifestyle advice and care.
4. Provide specialist, expert clinical knowledge to colleagues, patients and carers/relatives both within and outside the Trust.
5. Exercise professional judgement to manage risk appropriately, especially where there may be complex and unpredictable events and supporting teams to do likewise to ensure safety of individuals, families, and carers.
6. Ensure compliance with their respective code of professional conduct and work within their scope of practice.

Clinical Practice

14. Work in partnership with individuals, families, and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate
15. Be able to demonstrate a critical understanding of their broadened level of responsibility and autonomy. This includes being critically aware of their limits of their own competence and professional scope of practice, including when working with complexity, risk, uncertainty, and incomplete information
16. Be responsible and accountable for their decisions, actions, and omissions at this enhanced level of practice
17. Utilise professional judgement and maturity, understanding when to seek help
18. Demonstrate critical reflection on own practice, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and openness to change
19. Demonstrate effective communication skills, supporting people in making decisions, planning care, or seeking to make positive changes, using Health Education England’s framework to promote person-centred approaches in health and care
20. Work collaboratively with an appropriate range of multi-agency and inter-professional resources, developing, maintaining, and evaluating links to manage risk and issues across organisations and settings
21. Evidence the underpinning subject-specific competencies. knowledge, skills and behaviours relevant to the role setting and scope, and demonstrate application of the capabilities to these, in an approach that is appropriate to the individual role, setting and scope
22. Act as a clinical role model/advocate for developing and delivering care that is responsive to changing requirements, informed by an understanding of local population health needs, agencies, and networks
23. To perform clinical breast examinations synthesising information that are pertinent in identifying causes for the patient’s breast symptoms, using advanced clinical skills as per the MSc module
24. Exercise professional judgement to manage risk appropriately, especially where there may be complex and unpredictable events and supporting teams to do likewise to ensure safety of individuals, families and carers
25. To Work in partnership with individuals, families, and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate (., of history-taking; holistic assessment; identifying risk factors; mental health assessments; requesting, undertaking and conducting health needs assessments, physical examination, clinical measurements using advanced clinical skills, detailed medicines history, undertaking and interpreting range of tests / investigations and develop management plan including onward referrals and management plans
26. Uses highly developed communication skills to provide guidance, advice, and support to the individual /carer regarding management of their health/illness condition and its impact on individuals/carer’s life
27. To present and discuss own patient cases at the multidisciplinary team meetings, regarding diagnostic findings and any further ongoing care that is required.

Person specification

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential criteria

28. Active Professional Registered Qualification with NMC- Adult level 1
29. Post registration qualifications/CPD in area of practice as a minimum
30. Proven leadership experience
31. Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of professional portfolio and registration revalidation

Desirable criteria

32. Enhanced Clinical Practitioner Level 6 or above qualification
33. Non-medical prescriber (If appropriate for statutory profession and role)

Work Experience

Essential criteria

34. Grounded knowledge of the Breast care or cancer care
35. Demonstrable experience of service improvement and transformation, achieving cultural change to improve service quality
36. Experience of managing a caseload of patients and nurse led clinics
37. Proven track record of successful management of change and leadership

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria

38. Excellent organisation and leadership skills
39. Ability to act independently, resolve complex clinical situations and have good decision-making skills
40. Experience of management of the Breast cancer patients
41. Experience of involvement in research and audit at a local level within current or previous roles.
42. Ability to interpret and apply best practice and promote its use with others
43. A sound understanding of professional priorities and issues

The successful applicant(s) will normally commence at the minimum of the scale unless they have previous NHS service at the same band. Progression through the scale is by annual increments.
