Principal Engineer – Gas Distribution

We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of advanced control and gas distribution systems. This senior role offers the opportunity to take full ownership of technical solutions from concept through to delivery, ensuring quality, performance, and compliance at every stage.
The role
You will provide technical leadership across projects, supporting engineering teams and working closely with cross-functional colleagues and clients to deliver robust, innovative solutions. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with project oversight, client engagement, and mentoring responsibility.
You will play a key part in shaping technical delivery, supporting commissioning activities, contributing to budgets and resourcing, and ensuring successful project outcomes. This is an opportunity to influence both the quality of engineering solutions and the development of the wider team.
We are looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of advanced control and gas distribution systems. In this senior role, you will take ownership of technical solutions from concept through to delivery, ensuring quality, performance, and compliance at every stage. You will provide technical leadership across projects, support engineering teams, work closely with clients and cross-functional colleagues, and play a key role in commissioning, resourcing, budgeting, and project delivery. The role also includes mentoring and developing others, maintaining strong client relationships, and contributing to bidding and technical sign-off activity.
To be successful, you will need at least 7 years’ experience in systems engineering, hardware, or electrical design, along with experience using AutoCAD Electrical, SCADA, PLC, and HMI packages. A strong understanding of project management, cost control, systems integration, and quality management processes is essential, as is experience working in regulated environments and on client sites. You should also bring strong communication, leadership, and presentation skills, with the ability to provide practical technical solutions and guide teams effectively.
