Overview
It is expected that this role will operate from our customers site, as such you will be expected at site at Portsmouth 5 days a week.
We are looking for an energetic and driven engineer with broad expertise, however of particular interest would be candidates with (in order of priority) marine, military, aerospace or rail experience.

Responsibilities
Diagnosing and troubleshooting faults in legacy electronics systems, including analogue and digital circuits, radar, communication systems, navigation equipment, HV and control systems
Defining repairs, component-level replacements, and calibration of ageing hardware, often with obsolete or hard-to-source components
Maintaining system functionality under constraints of outdated technology and limited documentation
Reverse-engineer circuits, schematics, and systems where original documentation are incomplete or unavailable
Creating and updating technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, component lists, and maintenance procedures, to support ongoing operations
Identify equivalent modern components to replace obsolete parts while ensuring compatibility and compliance. Use legacy test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers.) and adapt modern tools for compatibility with older systems
Integrating modern electronics (e.g., micro-controllers, sensors) into existing systems, ensuring seamless operation
Document and mitigate risks associated with ageing equipment, including reliability and cybersecurity concerns
Qualifications
Degree in engineering with ideally electronics background. Where applicable suitable experience in addition to a lower qualification would be acceptable
Essential skills
Strong knowledge of analogue and digital electronics, including thermionic valves, transistors, and early integrated circuits
Proficiency in troubleshooting complex circuits using tools like multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analysers
Desired skills
The use of related SAP transactions (can be part of training) is desirable
Experience
Experience in electronics engineering, ideally with exposure to legacy systems or defence projects
