The Pupils, Staff and Governors of Shirenewton Primary School are seeking a passionate,
innovative and inspirational leader to fill the post of Headteacher, who will continue to
build upon recent curriculum and pedagogical reforms, as well as the transformation of
our learning environment. We are looking for a leader who will drive school forward in line
with our vision and with both local and national priorities. This leader will hold high
expectations, and place strong emphasis on empowering staff and pupils alike to “Learn
Together, Achieve for Life.”
Shirenewton Primary School is a 210‑pupil school situated in a beautiful rural location
on the outskirts of Chepstow. Its extensive grounds contribute significantly to the
learning environment and the rich experiences offered to pupils.
During our March 2025 inspection, Estyn recognised that the school’s self‑evaluation
processes are robust, with a strong focus on curriculum development, pupil progress
tracking and professional learning. The report highlighted the school’s work to “promote
pupils’ moral and social development effectively through its values‑based curriculum
and during collective worship. This helps to ensure that pupils’ behaviour is excellent
across the school, and they are polite and courteous to one another, staff and visitors.”
Our pupils have a meaningful and influential voice in decision‑making, with a range of
Pupil Action Groups involving children from Y3–Y6. Pupils and teachers engage in regular
learning development conversations.
This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic leader who can inspire others, nurture talent
and work collaboratively to build strong working relationships across all teams. We are
seeking a Headteacher who is committed to continuing our track record of implementing
research‑informed, intentional pedagogical development.
Our school thrives on close relationships within our community. Alongside strong
partnerships with parents and families, the successful candidate will be able to maintain
and strengthen valued connections within the village and the wider community,
including the After School Club, the Community Council, the Church, the Village Fete
and our local cluster of primary and secondary schools. As a Governing Body, we are
committed to sustaining a close and mutually supportive working relationship.
