Based in a city renowned for innovation, the School brings together expert practitioners, award-winning writers, and internationally recognised researchers to create a dynamic environment for both students and staff.

Located on the University's Oxford Road campus, the School benefits from outstanding facilities, including purpose-built TV and radio studios, a language resource centre, a 180-seat theatre, and the Manchester Poetry Library—the North West's first public poetry library. This environment supports interdisciplinary collaboration across literature, creative writing, linguistics, media, journalism, performance, and publishing.

As part of Manchester—a UNESCO City of Literature—the School is embedded in a thriving cultural ecosystem, offering access to festivals, heritage initiatives, performance venues, and creative industry partners.

The School's research is ranked among the best in the UK, with world-leading impact in English language and literature. It is home to specialist centres including the Manchester Writing School—one of the largest and most successful writing schools globally—and the Manchester School of Theatre, renowned for producing exceptional actors and theatre-makers.

Together, this environment fosters creativity, critical thinking, and impactful communication, reflecting the School's mission to make a meaningful difference locally, nationally, and globally.

The School is seeking an experienced and professionally active journalist with a strong academic profile to provide strategic leadership for its undergraduate and postgraduate Multimedia Journalism programmes. As a Reader, you will play a key role in shaping the direction, quality, and reputation of journalism education within the School.

You will lead and deliver core modules, contribute to curriculum development, and ensure an outstanding and inclusive student experience. The role also includes supporting research and professional practice aligned with the University's commitment to research-informed, practice-based learning.
