Learning support assistant required for a large PMLD school in the heart of Bradford.
This large provision supports young people years who have profound and multiple learning disabilities.
Someone with a profound and multiple learning disability might have difficulties seeing, hearing, speaking and moving. They may have complicated health and social care needs due to these or other conditions.
They will need support to help them with some areas of their life, such as eating, washing or personal care.
Lots of people with a profound and multiple learning disability can still be involved in decisions about themselves, do things they enjoy and be independent.
This role is to enrich and support the lives of these amazing young adults as they find their feet in the community.
Some people who struggle with talking might be able to use other ways of communication, like sign language, Makaton, or digital systems like picture exchange communication systems (PECS)- so experience of this would be preferred (but not essential).
You will ideally have:
* Teaching assistant level 1,2 or 3, Health and Social care qualification or equivalent
* Experience working with adults or children with complex or SEN needs within the last two years e.g. Care Home, Residential Care Home, SEMH School or Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
* Are passionate about the development and learning of students with Social and Emotional Mental Health and want to make a difference
* Work well with teachers as part of a professional team, supporting students with SEMH
* Be willing to build relationships with learners and understand what is behind the behaviour
* Able to work as part of a team and support the ethos of a school
* Experience of moving & handling
* Comfortable with personal care

Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing educational and behavioral strategies for students with autism
- Support students in their daily activities and routines
- Provide individualized attention and instruction to students
- Assist with classroom management and behavior support
- Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop and implement lesson plans
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher
- Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment
Experience:
- Experience working with children, particularly those with autism or special education needs
- Knowledge of effective communication techniques for individuals with autism
- Familiarity with toddler care and early childhood education principles
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of individual students
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
