We are seeking an experienced and fully qualified Accountant to join our practice on a part-time basis, working 15 hours per week. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified professional looking for a flexible role that offers genuine variety across a broad range of general practice work.
You will take ownership of a portfolio of clients, managing their day-to-day accounting needs, preparing accounts and returns, and delivering a reliable payroll service. You will be confident working independently while contributing to the wider team, and comfortable building strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts and General Practice
* Prepare year-end statutory accounts for a portfolio of sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
* Prepare and review management accounts and provide meaningful commentary and insight to clients
* Complete and submit self‑assessment tax returns, corporation tax returns, and VAT returns
* Reconcile accounts and manage bookkeeping for clients as required
* Liaise directly with clients to gather information, answer queries, and provide proactive accounting advice
* Use Xero and QuickBooks to manage client records and ensure accuracy of financial data
* Support clients with software set‑up, training, and ongoing queries relating to cloud accounting tools
Payroll
* Process monthly and weekly payroll for a range of clients across various sectors
* Manage auto‑enrolment pension submissions and ensure compliance with workplace pension requirements
* Handle PAYE submissions to HMRC, including RTI filings
* Process statutory payments including SSP, SMP, and SPP
* Prepare and issue payslips, P60s, P11Ds, and other payroll‑related documentation
* Advise clients on payroll matters and keep up to date with HMRC payroll legislation
Skills & Experience
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or AAT Level 4)
* Proven experience working within an accountancy practice
* Strong working knowledge of Xero and/or QuickBooks
* Demonstrated experience processing payroll for multiple clients
* Thorough understanding of PAYE, RTI, auto‑enrolment, and statutory payments
* Ability to prepare statutory accounts and tax returns to a high standard
* Excellent client‑facing skills with a confident and professional manner
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
* Experience with payroll software (e.g. Brightpay, Sage Payroll, or similar)
* Knowledge of P11D and benefits‑in‑kind reporting
* Experience advising owner‑managed businesses
