About the Role
As a Technical Designer in the events industry, you will be responsible for turning creative concepts into buildable technical solutions. Working across exhibitions, live events, and brand activations, you’ll produce detailed technical drawings, advise on structural feasibility, and help ensure projects are delivered on time and to budget.
This role also includes light project management responsibilities, such as liaising with suppliers, monitoring timelines, and supporting the wider production team throughout the project lifecycle. On the job training will be available for applicants without prior project management experience.
Responsibilities
* Produce detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings and specifications for event builds, staging, and scenic elements.
* Translate creative design concepts into practical, safe, and cost-effective solutions.
* Collaborate with designers, project managers, fabricators, and suppliers to ensure seamless delivery.
* Conduct site surveys and assess technical requirements.
* Provide technical input on materials, construction methods, rigging, and installation.
* Assist with project scheduling, supplier coordination, and reporting to ensure deadlines are met.
* Maintain compliance with industry health & safety standards and venue regulations.
Skills & Experience Required
* Previous experience as a Technical Designer (preferably within events, exhibitions, staging, or a related creative industry).
* Strong proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Vectorworks, SketchUp, or similar).
* Solid understanding of event build methods, structural design, and materials.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills with internal teams and external suppliers.
* Organisational skills with the ability to support project timelines and budgets.
* Knowledge of health & safety regulations in live events is highly desirable.
