Overview
Lead Controls & Automation Engineer – Naval role at GE Vernova. The role focuses on delivering control system projects for Marine, Offshore and Naval applications, supporting electrification and decarbonization in the marine sector through motors, drives and control technologies.
Responsibilities
* Support engineering activities during the production of control systems from order receipt to handover to the customer after commissioning and testing on the vessel at sea.
* Provide technical interface to customers, classification societies, and suppliers.
* Produce design, installation, and test documentation and maintain it throughout the project lifecycle.
* Work with the Drawing Office to produce equipment drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, cable interconnection drawings, and interface schedules.
* Perform the functional design of HMI, PLC architecture, networks, and communications interfaces using standard hardware and software components.
* Write PLC software using IEC 61131-3 languages (LD, FBD, ST, IL, SFC).
* Design, tag, and test control system mimics using HMI/SCADA packages.
* Manage change during the project lifecycle using appropriate change management processes.
* Perform factory testing of control systems leading to a formal Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) with the customer and classification society.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements
* Sole British citizenship with a valid British Passport (UK Eyes only).
* Possession of, or ability to obtain, security clearance to SC (Security Check) level.
* A relevant degree in Electrical, Electronics or Industrial Control Systems Engineering (or equivalent), or significant relevant experience.
* Previous experience designing and integrating control & automation project solutions.
* Good understanding of programming PLCs.
* Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC-UA, Profibus, PROFINET).
Nice-to-have Qualifications
* Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
* Knowledge/awareness of Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity.
* Basic knowledge of Functional Safety as per IEC 61508.
* Willingness to travel and spend time on commissioning activities domestically and overseas.

This role involves work for customers who manage critical infrastructure and may require background checks and suitability assessments (UK BPSS clearance or UK SC clearance) as part of the hiring process. National security vetting levels are described by UK government guidelines.
