It encompasses the time-honored virtue of hospitality or, to put it in Greek, philoxenia.POSITION OVERVIEWThe primary responsibilities of a Waiter are to exemplify uncompromising hospitality, providing our guests with the finest food and beverages, accompanied by courteous and efficient service to guests throughout their dining experience.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESAttend mandatory pre-shift briefing (line-up) before serviceArrive at work on time for shiftEnsure that tables are set to standardsMaintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform while workingPresents menus to customers and answers questions about menu items, making recommendations upon requestInform customers of daily specialsExplain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methodsEnsure orders are delivered on timeEnsure food presentation is up to par before serving itServes food and/or beverages to guests; prepares and serves specialty dishes at tables if requiredAssure needs of guests are continually being met in a courteous and professional manner throughout the duration of their visitCheck with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problemsCheck customers' personal identification in order to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beveragesMaintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all timesPrepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes, present, accept payment and provide change or credit card receipt. Follow appropriate accounting procedures for closing checksKeep wait stations clean, set up and take down station appropriatelyRemove dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaningMay be asked to perform side work such as the following: stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware and linensAttend mandatory food and beverage classesPerform miscellaneous job-related duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSFluent English speakerHigh School Diploma or equivalent. Some college preferredAt least 1-2 years of experience in a related field, preferably in hotels or restaurantsMust be able to convey information and ideas clearlyAbility to display warmth and hospitabilityFlexible and long hours sometimes requiredAbility to stand during entire shiftAbility to exert up to 25 kg of force occasionally, and/or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objectKnowledge of any POS system a plusKnowledge of Greek cuisine a plusApplicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK, without restrictions.
