Role Overview
The Senior Principal Designer will embed health and safety considerations throughout all stages of construction projects in accordance with CDM 2015 regulations, lead on design risk management, and mentor junior colleagues.
Responsibilities
* Ensure full compliance with CDM 2015 across all RIBA stages as Principal Designer.
* Identify, assess, and mitigate design‑related health and safety risks across projects.
* Facilitate and record design risk workshops, maintaining Design Risk Registers.
* Critically review design proposals to eliminate or reduce foreseeable risks.
* Advise clients on CDM duties, providing practical guidance.
* Build professional relationships with clients, designers, and contractors.
* Compile and coordinate key CDM documentation: Pre‑Construction Information and Health & Safety File.
* Conduct site visits and audits, providing actionable feedback.
* Mentor junior team members, deliver training, and promote best practices.
* Support bids, proposals, and marketing efforts; identify new opportunities.
Qualifications and Essentials
* NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification.
* Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., APS, IOSH).
* Demonstrable CPD in construction health and safety, design risk management.
* Evidence of training or certification in CDM 2015 compliance and design coordination.
* Eligibility to work in the UK and a strong understanding of UK construction legislation.
