About this role
We are looking for a full‑time Consultant Psychiatrist to join the 16‑bed acute male mental health service at Cygnet Hospital Sherwood, Nottinghamshire. The successful candidate will act as responsible clinician, oversee ward inpatients, audit medical services and ensure high‑quality care in line with GMC standards.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Lead on the provision of high quality care to service users admitted to the hospital.
* Act as a positive role model, maintaining a supportive attitude towards patients, families, visitors and staff.
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Assess referrals, undertake mental state examinations, investigations, diagnoses and treatment.
* Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits.
* Implement risk assessment, risk management and embed clinical governance.
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managerial hearings, and attend these hearings.
* Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave as required.
* Maintain accurate patient records and keep regular communication with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
* Contribute to academic meetings and adhere to CPD standards set by the GMC, Department of Health and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Participate in the telephone on‑call rota and QI & audit initiatives.

Requirements
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent).
* Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC status.
* Experienced and knowledgeable in a mental health specialty.
* Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.
* Excellent communicator with strong interview, assessment, treatment and medical‑note writing skills.
* Committed to ongoing professional development.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.
