Description
As a consultant dermatologist at DMC, you will work autonomously and be responsible for providing specialist dermatological medical services to our patient population. This involves delivering an excellent standard of clinical care in dermatology while adhering to the [GMS/PMS/APMS] contract. You will also comply with the GMC standards for good medical practice and contribute to the effective management of the practice, particularly in dermatological care, while maintaining a positive relationship with the multidisciplinary team.
Main duties and responsibilities
Primary Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-quality medical care with an emphasis on dermatology to those entitled.
* Provide specialised dermatological services in accordance with the [GMS/PMS/APMS] agreement.
* Treat a range of skin conditions, including complex and chronic dermatological issues.
* Engage in dermatology clinics and offer guidance to general practitioners.
* Manage dermatological administrative duties, such as referrals and medication management.
* Perform dermatological procedures and surgeries as necessary.
* Maintain precise clinical records for dermatological treatments.
* Collaborate with the dermatology department and general practice team.
* Stay updated with developments in dermatology and implement best practices.
* Lead dermatology quality improvement initiatives.
* Oversee dermatological aspects of QOF.
* Participate in dermatology practice meetings.
* Contribute to dermatological services development, clinical governance, and training.
* Ensure compliance with dermatological standards in appraisals.
* Engage in dermatology-specific revalidation and professional development.
* Support training of medical students and junior doctors in dermatology.
* Assist partners in enhancing dermatological services and practice income.
* Review and adhere to dermatology protocols and policies.
* Promote continuous improvement in dermatological care.
Secondary Responsibilities
In addition, the dermatologist may:
* Participate in dermatology audits.
* Engage in initiatives to improve dermatology services and patient care.
* Review significant dermatology events using structured approaches like RCA.
Personal specifications
Essential
* Specialist Dermatology Qualification: Medical degree and recognized specialist qualification in Dermatology.
* Experience in managing various skin conditions, including complex cases.
* Full GMC Registration and inclusion on the National Performers List.
* Proficiency in dermatological procedures, surgeries, and pharmacotherapy.
* Experience in outpatient dermatology services.
* Commitment to evidence-based care.
* Excellent clinical and communication skills.
* IT skills relevant to dermatology practice.
* Leadership and teamwork skills.
* Ongoing professional development in dermatology.
* Research or academic involvement is a plus.
* Legal entitlement to work in the UK.
* Knowledge of QOF and clinical audit experience.
* Strong organizational and time management skills.
* Empathy and patient sensitivity.
* Successful DBS check and occupational health clearance.
Desirable
* Experience in medicines management related to dermatology.
* Involvement in ICB initiatives and integrated care systems.
* Experience in teaching or supervising medical staff in dermatology.
