To work across Channel 4 News digital platforms, focusing on delivery of text content and newsletter. To secure maximum impact for Channel 4 News’ entire digital and television output on our own platforms/channel and others. This role will likely include shift work, weekend work and some UK travel.
This role could be in London or Leeds.
Key Responsibilities
 * Work across Channel 4 News digital platforms – focusing on delivery of Substack, Showcase, text production and newsletters as well as working across other platforms as needed
 * Produce original stories and coverage across a wide range of social media platforms and the website, with a focus on written content
 * Oversee individual and ongoing projects, such as output‑wide projects, multimedia projects, and investigations
 * Manage digital engagement with the audience via social media and create and produce interactive multi‑platform formats
 * Write scripts and written content about complex topics for long‑form platforms – securing millions of views for our content in the digital world with in‑depth explainers
 * Bring in distinctive, exclusive stories that meet the high editorial standards of Channel 4 News, pitched at a digital‑first audience and for broadcast on TV
 * Share best‑practice across the newsrooms of how to find and how to tell complex stories in text
 * Show distinctive judgement about digital storytelling – with confidence about what elements will resonate with an online audience and what will perform in the medium
 * Generate ideas for stories, series, projects and multimedia coverage
 * Write and edit news stories and blogs for the website using the Content Management System
 * Maintain the highest standards of spelling, punctuation and grammar
 * Provide imaginative treatments for complex stories and present complex ideas simply and in a compelling manner
 * Ensure stories are accurate and comply with the law and relevant regulations
 * Work in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety in the office and in the field
 * Work on the output, news‑desk or other programme teams if required following training
 * Occasionally work in the field, at home and abroad, during breaking news
 * Occasional work with independent reporters or companies
Key Requirements
 * An exceptional text journalist and digital native who works to the highest editorial standards and has some knowledge of video production
 * A proven track record of producing high‑impact stories across a variety of media
 * A journalist with reporting experience dealing with the highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail around often complex and controversial material
 * Knowledge of Adobe CS
 * Expert understanding and knowledge of social media, especially text content and newsletters, and experience working across a wide variety of platforms
 * Strong team‑working skills
 * Strong digital news judgement – with a knowledge of what will play well on social and how to draw users to our website
 * Ability to take a lead on substantial digital projects, innovating in formats that cross over TV and digital media
 * High quality news judgement, editorial creativity and imagination
 * Ability to work autonomously and under own initiative
 * Flair for expressing stories visually and an excellent writing ability, especially with longer form or narrative‑driven text and multi‑media content
 * Highly developed understanding of complex legal situations and understanding of ITN Legal Compliance procedures
 * Understanding of Channel 4 News agenda
 * Good interpersonal skills, team player with personal authority and the ability to manage a group of people
 * Calm under pressure with the ability to adapt and be flexible in task and role
 * Ability to work to strict deadline in a time‑pressured environment
 * Play an authoritative role in team editorial meetings presenting ideas in a persuasive manner
 * Act with responsibility and common sense in the field and office, in compliance with ITN’s Health and Safety Policies
