Position: Consultant Psychiatrist
Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Foundation NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist for a replacement post. The successful candidate will cover Beech Ward at Bowmere Hospital, Countess of Chester site, Chester, 1.0 WTE.
Beech Ward is a mixed-sex, 22-bed acute functional mental health ward for adults of working age. It has a fully functional multidisciplinary team (MDT) including resident doctors (SAS doctor, core and foundation trainees), Psychology, OT, and Pharmacy.
The consultant will participate in the West Consultant Psychiatrist on-call rota, which is of low frequency, at least once every 13 days.
Beech Ward provides acute care for patients presenting with various mental disorders such as affective disorders, psychosis, and personality disorders. Patients may be admitted both informally and under the Mental Health Act.
The post-holder will be responsible for delivering psychiatric input to patients admitted to Beech Ward and providing medical input into SPA, in line with the Acute Service Operational Policy. Responsibilities include:
1. Providing senior medical input to ensure safe and timely service provision.
2. Assuming Consultant and RC responsibility for Beech Ward patients.
3. Managing patients with acute, chronic, and severely enduring mental illnesses.
4. Working flexibly within a multidisciplinary team, promoting risk-taking and anti-discriminatory practices.
5. Liaising with internal and external interfaces regarding admissions, transfers, and discharges.
6. Offering expert risk assessment and management skills.
7. Ensuring high-quality, safe clinical services in partnership with MDT and management.
8. Providing medical and psychiatric assessments for referrals.
