The opportunity
An exciting opportunity to work in EY’s Global Grants Credits & Incentives team based in our central London office, alongside other STEM professionals, as well as tax and accounting colleagues.
As an IT / Software Consultant you will be working with a variety of clients across the technology and IT services landscape, who are at the front line in developing cutting edge technology which is helping the UK to stay as a market leader by encouraging investment into research and development.
The successful candidate will get the opportunity to work as part of a diverse team of highly successful industry and tax specialists. You will be required to hold interviews with the senior and lead technical personnel at our clients to help identify the scientific and technological aspects of their software development projects that qualify for R&D tax relief. You will play an active role in writing reports of clients’ R&D projects and taking part in extensive client communication.
As well as working directly with existing clients, you will also be offered the chance to support business development opportunities and cross-sector claims.
Your key responsibilities
1. Working as an effective member of a project team, exhibiting strong communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with other team members of different skill sets
2. Writing compelling technical project reports to bring out the key technical factors of client projects to support R&D tax claims
3. Interaction with clients' senior technical and software staff to develop a comprehensive understanding of the projects undertaken and identify how aspects of projects meet the R&D Guidelines
4. Application of advanced problem-solving skills and critical thinking to apply to project execution and delivery
5. Building and maintaining relationships with clients to provide high levels of client service
6. Responsible for supporting client meetings and high-quality delivery of advice to major clients, ensuring management of risk and reputation
7. A keen desire to adapt and flex existing knowledge to different sectors and build on core capabilities
Skills and attributes for success
8. A strong interest in software technologies and programming languages
9. You have university-based experience working on software projects and dealing with the limitations faced with the technologies used
10. You have the ability to understand new software technologies and concepts ( platforms, API’s, frameworks) quickly, and be comfortable in discussing them in-depth
11. You can interact readily with other technical professionals, have great interpersonal skills and excel in producing a concise summary of information
12. Strong attention to detail and first-time accuracy is essential
13. Interest in project and company finances and the application of tax treatment
To qualify for the role, you must have
14. Degree qualified in one of Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development, etc.
15. Computer Science / Software development experience, either at graduate-level or ideally within industry
16. Excellent communication and negotiation skills and a collaborative approach to management
17. The flexibility to constantly learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Ideally, you’ll also have
18. Industry experience or previous R&D tax experience is not necessary but is advantageous
