We are currently supporting a leading civil engineering contractor on a large, long-term infrastructure project in Bridgwater. Due to project scale and commercial complexity, they require an experienced Freelance Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial function on site.
This is a senior, hands-on role on a flagship scheme operating under NEC forms of contract, offering long-term contract security and strong day rates.
The Role
As Freelance Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will take full responsibility for the commercial management of the project, providing leadership, governance, and strategic oversight. Responsibilities will include:
Full commercial ownership of a major infrastructure project under NEC3/NEC4
Management of project financial performance, cost reporting, and forecasting
Strategic control of early warnings, compensation events, and change management
Leadership and oversight of the site-based commercial team
Subcontract procurement strategy and commercial compliance
Senior-level reporting to commercial and project directors
Supporting dispute avoidance and commercial risk mitigation
About You
Demonstrable experience operating as a Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Commercial Lead on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects
Strong NEC contract experience is essential
Background in heavy civils, infrastructure, energy, highways, or similar large-scale schemes
Comfortable taking full commercial accountability in a fast-paced site environment
Proven ability to lead teams and interface at senior stakeholder level
