This is a well-established substantive post within an experienced breast surgery team at Bedford Hospital, comprising one Consultant, one Associate Specialist, and one Specialty Doctor. The vacancy has arisen following the retirement of the current post-holder. The successful appointee will be based primarily at the Bedford site; however, the Breast Unit operates as one part of a single merged service across Bedford and Luton, and the role requires integration of practice across both sites and flexible working to meet service needs.
Responsibilities
* Undertake regular new patient and follow‑up clinics at Bedford Hospital.
* Provide surgical treatment to patients with malignant and benign breast disease.
* Prepare for and contribute to the weekly Breast Cancer Multi‑Disciplinary Meetings.
* Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of breast patients.
* Work closely with the Breast multi‑disciplinary team to manage the pathway of breast patients.
* Teach and train intermediate‑grade and junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students.
* Contribute to the future development of the joint working strategy of the Unit across the Bedfordshire Hospitals Trust.
* Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
* Have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).
* Have skills in breast ultrasound, or be prepared to undergo training in this regard.
Qualifications
* Full UK Medical/Dental registration at time of application.
* MRCS or equivalent qualification, and be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attaining CCT at the time of the interview.
* Occupational Health Clearance and Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check before commencement.
* Ability to travel between the Bedford and Luton hospital sites as required.
