Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic nurse to join our Specialist Palliative Care Team at Scarborough Hospital.
We are looking for a compassionate and dynamic nurse leader to provide advanced clinical expertise and drive high-quality palliative and end of life care, across acute and community settings. You will work closely with the Lead Nurse, Consultants in Palliative Medicine, and the wider team to implement an innovative End of Life Care Strategy, lead service improvements, and support staff education and development.
The successful candidate will have advanced knowledge of palliative care, a passion for improving patient and family experience, and a commitment to collaborative, patient‑centred practice. Main duties of the job
* Clinical Leadership: Provide expert clinical leadership and advanced palliative care to patients with complex needs across acute and community settings. Act as a role model and source of specialist advice to nursing and multidisciplinary teams.
* Specialist Assessment and Care Delivery: Undertake advanced assessments, develop and evaluate individualised care plans, and use non‑medical prescribing (where appropriate) to ensure timely and effective interventions.
* Leadership and Management: Provide day‑to‑day leadership within the Specialist Palliative Care Team. Contribute to workforce development, supervision, and appraisal of staff, and support service planning and resource management.
* Education and Training: Contribute towards the development, delivery, and evaluation of a Trust‑wide education strategy for palliative and end‑of‑life care in line with national ambitions and local priorities. Design and facilitate innovative learning programmes for all staff groups and contribute to post‑graduate teaching and training.
* Service Development and Quality Improvement: Work with the Lead Nurse for Palliative and End‑of‑Life Care and other senior colleagues to develop nurse‑led initiatives, implement evidence‑based practice, and lead on quality improvement projects that enhance patient outcomes and experience.

Qualifications Essential
* Registered Nurse
* Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
* Post registration qualification in speciality
* Advanced communication skills training

* Masters Level Degree Education
Experience Essential
* Experience at band 6 or equivalent within specialty of palliative Care for at least 2 years
* Managing staff and leadership experience
Specialist Knowledge Essential
* Highly developed specialist knowledge in palliative/EOLC underpinned by theory and experience
* Standards of professional practice
* Current issues in healthcare
Skills Essential
* Plan specialist nursing provision including education and training
* Leadership skills
