We are currently looking to recruit a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Deputy Charge Nurse to our Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit.

We are looking for nurses with a proven ability to work in this demanding environment. You will need to be currently working in a critical care unit as either a Band 5 or Band 6. You need to be a dynamic and assertive Critical Care nurse capable of making decisions in relation to both Level 2 and Level 3 patients. You need to possess a relevant post registration course in either Critical Care or Neurosciences nursing. Ideally, you will have a degree, or be committed to obtaining one. You will need to be highly motivated, have good communication skills, posses evidence of teaching and mentoring of staff and experience of leadership within the clinical workplace is essential.

The successful candidate will work closely with their Band 7 team leader to further develop their managerial and leadership skills. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* To demonstrate and promote patient centred care
* Be responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of patient care
* Safe administration of medication according to Trust policy
* Be responsive to emergency scenarios and situations
* Demonstrate a problem solving approach to meet the needs of the patient
* Ensure all practice is evidence based and peer reviewed
* Maintain clinical skills through continued personal professional development and education
* To supervise and support nursing and non-nursing staff involved in direct patient care, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake the planned care
* Promote effective interpersonal relationships with members of the multi-disciplinary team
* Act as a role model for the nursing team promoting consistent professional and clinical excellence
* Deputise for Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse
* Promote the health and wellbeing of colleagues


Person specification

* Positive enthusiastic character
* Registered Nurse with first degree in Nursing
* Able to demonstrate the ability to put patients at the heart of what you do
* Registered Nurse or national certification in area of practice
* Minimum of 3 years acute care registered nurse experience
* Registered Nurse or national certification in area of practice
* Previous experience on managing clinical incidents and complaints
* Previous experience in the relevant specialty

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
