FFP3 Fit Testing Officer (EPRR)
Closing date is 31 May 2026
The FFP3 Fit Testing Officer (EPRR) is a Band 3 role within the Trust's Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) Department.
The postholder delivers a reliable, evidence-based RPE face‑fit testing service for colleagues who require tight‑fitting respirators (e.g. FFP3) for their duties. The role ensures testing is carried out in line with HSE INDG479 and HSG53 and supports Trust compliance with COSHH and NHS England EPRR Core Standards.
The postholder also contributes to wider EPRR activity, including incident response support, training delivery (for example HAZMAT/CBRN awareness, IOR/“Remove, Remove, Remove”), and participation in exercises. The post is based across all DBTH sites and reports to the EPRR Officer.
Main duties of the job
Face‑fit testing (primary focus)
* Plan and deliver qualitative (Bitrex/Saccharin) and quantitative (e.g. PortaCount) face‑fit testing in accordance with HSE INDG479/HSG53 and Trust policy.
* Provide clear pre‑test instructions; run tests in a safe, controlled environment; and record pass/fail outcomes and fit factors as appropriate. Issue certificates and maintain accurate, auditable records.
* Ensure the respirator used in practice is the same model/size the wearer has been fit tested to; advise on donning/doffing and daily fit checks.
* Identify when re‑testing is needed (e.g. significant weight change, facial surgery/dental work, new model/size of RPE) and help schedule timely reviews.
* Support selection and evaluation of suitable RPE models stocked by the Trust, working with Procurement to ensure availability of test masks and consumables.
Equipment, standards and competence
* Work to HSE good practice and Trust policies; maintain own competence and, where required, work towards/maintain Fit2Fit accreditation (method(s) relevant to duties).
* Support EPRR training and exercise delivery (e.g. HAZMAT/CBRN awareness, IOR/“Remove, Remove, Remove”, CDU deployment drills, PRPS familiarisation), aligned to Domain 10 of the Core Standards and DBTH frameworks.
* Provide on‑site support during live incidents as directed, including logistics for RPE distribution, rapid testing/verification, and responder safety briefings.
