North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust have collaborated to form a group structure known as University Hospital Tees. Within this structure, the pathology departments have been working together to create the Tees Valley Pathology Service, which includes a central processing hub on the James Cook site and two Essential Service Labs (ESL) at North Tees (NTH) and Friarage (FHN) hospital sites. These labs support acute and clinically urgent work as appropriate.
We are actively seeking suitable candidates to complement and develop existing services, working alongside our established team of Chemical Pathologists and Consultant Clinical Scientists. The position will primarily be based at NTH once our future accommodation plans are finalized later this year, but support across all sites will be required as needed.
The post holder will provide clinical advice, interpret biochemistry laboratory results, and authorize patient reports for both primary and secondary care users. Responsibilities include assisting the consultant and clinical scientist team in developing the biochemistry service, liaising with clinicians to develop policies impacting patient care, guiding laboratory personnel, and maintaining scientific standards within Clinical Chemistry according to UKAS standards.
Currently, a procurement exercise is underway to replace the existing Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), with staff expected to participate in this process over the next 12-18 months. The role involves participation in the out-of-hours Clinical Chemistry on-call service and may include clinical leadership of Point of Care Testing. The position may involve rotation among consultant staff and supporting colleagues in delivering the Lipid service.
