The Role
Applications are invited for a talented and ambitious Clinical Research Associate to work within the Population Health Sciences Institute. Working with Professor Gillian Vance and Dr Sarah Sowden, the post holder will be expected to contribute across various mixed methods projects about health inequalities and workforce development.
You will hold a degree in medicine and have research experience within the area of health care inequalities and public health. Required experience and skills include:
⦁ Current or recent employment on the Specialised Foundation Programme – including post-graduate academic experience in a public health related academic unit
⦁ Experience of undertaking research relating to healthcare inequalities and workforce development
⦁ Designing and undertaking qualitative data collection and analysis
⦁ Publication in high quality peer reviewed journal
⦁ Presenting research at academic conference
⦁ Engaging and presentating to stakeholders across partner organsations

Responsibilities
⦁ Carry out high quality applied health research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and to an appropriate standard.
⦁ Contribute to study design and collect, organise and analyse data relating to various projects focused on addressing health and care inequalities and workforce development.
⦁ Ensure that research activity and any data collection is consistent with current research governance instructions and Data Protection legislation.
⦁ Present information on research progress and outcomes to the Principal Investigator and colleagues overseeing the research projects, and at national and international meetings, workshops and conferences appropriate to the programme of work.
⦁ P repare papers for publication in high quality peer reviewed journals, and prepare presentations and reports for key stakeholders and the Deep End network steering group
⦁ Identify and undertake a programme of professional development, including further training in research methods and other transferable skills.
⦁ Contribute to the activities of the Deep End research project team and to other relevant research infrastructures in the Institute and University
⦁ W ork with relevant stakeholders including members of the public to ensure research is relevant to their needs
⦁ Carry out administrative tasks and other duties to support the projects as required by the project leads
⦁ Undertake teaching related to health inequalities and/or methods expertise
⦁ Work to deadlines and manage competing priorities.
⦁ P rovide guidance as required to any support staff and/or research students.

⦁ Experience of undertaking public health, health and care inequalities research in the area of workforce development
⦁ Knowledge and experience of undertaking research relating to the North East and North Cumbria Deep End primary care network
⦁ Presentation at an academic conference
⦁ Named author on a peer-reviewed academic publication
⦁ Experience of designing and undertaking evidence syntheses, qualitative research and conducting qualitative analysis
⦁ Working understanding of the principles of participant confidentiality in research.
⦁ Ability to work flexibly according to study needs.
⦁ Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
⦁ Good level of analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex information clearly, both orally and through the written word.
⦁ Ability to use personal initiative and creativity to solve research problems.
