Occupational Therapist

Hopewood Hospital in Sherwood, Nottingham has 32 beds across 3 wards and is based on site with an education facility for our inpatients, a CAMHS community base with specialist teams and both inpatient and community perinatal teams.

Pegasus Ward provides a highly specialist service, to young people aged 13 to 18, who have an eating disorder and often other co-morbidities. It is a fast-paced environment with a supportive and experienced multi-disciplinary team.


Main duties of the job

We're looking for an experienced and compassionate qualified Occupational Therapist to come and join our team. You will need to be able to work autonomously, with relevant transferable skills and experience to deliver a high-quality Occupational Therapy service to meet the complex needs of the young people. On Pegasus ward the Occupational Therapist is a core member of the MDT offering core aspects of treatment including social eating, support with sensory needs, ADLs and group work.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Person Specification


Experience

* Working in line with safeguarding processes and procedures
* Experience of working as an occupational therapist in the community and/or in patient settings with learning disabilities and/or mental health.
* Applying evidence based practice to your assessment and treatment.
* Experience of managing own caseload.
* Experience working in a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency team.
* Experience of using standardized and evidence based assessments.
* Understanding of MOHO.
* Presenting and delivering training.
* oUndertaking dynamic and formal risk assessments.
* Experience supporting other staff/students.
* Experience supporting other staff/students.


Skills

* Effective communication skills both verbal, written and electronic.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Able to complete documentation to high standard
* Good clinical reasoning skills and effective decision making.
* Flexible and innovative.
* Motivated and also able to motivate others.
* Team member but also able to work as an autonomous practitioner.
* Proficient skills in Occupational Therapy screening, assessment, formulation planning, intervention and evaluation skills and timely discharge.

Physical Requirements

* Able to undertake training in the Prevention & Management of Violence & Aggression (PMVA)
* Has the physical ability to perform a full range of occupational therapy duties


Qualifications

* BSc or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
* Post qualification training relevant to post to Diploma level or equivalent
* Registration with Health Care Professions Council
* Experience of supervision of junior staff
* Evidence of CPD
* Member of professional body
* Training in sensory approaches


Knowledge

* Interest and motivation to work with young people with a range of Mental Health and Emotional needs.
* Working knowledge of trauma informed care.
* Working knowledge of how a range of mental health needs can impact functioning.
* National drivers guiding practice in field of Mental health.
* Awareness of a range of specialist assessments relevant to the client population.


Contractual Requirements

* Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
* Full current valid driving licence valid for UK.
* Access to own transport.
