Modern Matron for Inpatient CAMHS

Are you passionate about nursing leadership, patient safety and clinical excellence?

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within the Inpatient Child and Adolescent Services at Parkview Clinic, in the mental health division of Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced nurse to join our nursing leadership as a Modern Matron, working alongside our Head of Nursing and Senior Nurses to bolster our senior team and help to take our ambitious service further forward. Our wards have been completely refurbished and meet a high specification to meet the challenges of modern inpatient psychiatry.

The successful candidate will work closely with Ward Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Nurse Educators, deputies and ward teams, to ensure patient safety and deliver high quality care, and take part in the strategic development of the service.

The matron will be highly visible and accessible to our patients, families, staff and visitors, and focus on improving the fundamental and essential aspects of care to our children and young people. This will include improving clinical care standards, evidencing best practice, infection control, leading on the patient safety agenda and ensuring regulatory standards are met, exceeded and sustained.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide clinical and professional support to the Head of Nursing Tier 4 CAMHS in the delivery of the local and national nursing agenda. This will include providing a professional nursing leadership through a strong visible clinical presence within the service to develop nursing practice and clinical standards enabling the nursing workforce to provide a safe, effective, and high-quality care for children and young people, their family, and carers.

The post holder will lead the development of robust and effective care pathways that enhance patient safety and clinical care and meet statutory and regulatory requirements.

The matron will provide clinical leadership and support for nursing staff to maintain clinical and non-clinical standards of care to include the implementation and sustainability of quality improvement. This includes ensuring that Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards are met and exceeded.

The matron will demonstrate a level of healthy curiosity about safe care and the management of risk to ensure high standards are delivered and maintained. The matron will be highly visible to staff, patients, and their families and/or carers.

The post holder will provide the leadership for the senior nurse s to deliver a high quality, safe, efficient, and effective service within the financial allocation, and undertake specific service improvement projects.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* NMC Registered Nurse (Mental Health) or NMC Registered Nurse (Learning Disability) or NMC Registered Nurse (Children)
* Leadership and Management Qualification
* Specialist Area Training
* Relevant teaching or assessing qualification


Knowledge and Nature of Experience

* Experience of working as a clinical lead in an inpatient mental health environment at band 7 level.
* Experience of leading and working with a multi-disciplinary teams.
* Experience of minimising clinical risk management and reducing restrictive practices.
* Demonstrable clinical leadership skills and ability.
* Experience of providing individualised and culturally sensitive care.
* Experience of clinical audit and effectiveness.
* Experience of working with young people and families.
* Experience in service redesign and transformation.
* Demonstrable experience of relationship management with external regulatory bodies.
* Experience of handling confidential and sensitive information in accordance with GDPR.
* Experience of secure/psychiatric intensive care such as PICU, LSU
* Experience of using initiative and enthusiasm to problem solve/develop the services with minimum disruption.


Professional / Managerial / Specialist Knowledge

* A proven record of success in managing significant operational / strategic change whilst also developing and maintaining the provision of a high-quality service, within a clinical setting, with multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience of team working and building and maintaining effective working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment.
* Promote, monitor, and maintain best practice in health, safety, and security.
* Ability to appraise, interpret and apply suggestions, recommendations, and directives for improving service areas.
* Good working knowledge of wider health and social care system and structures, policies, procedures, and legislation relevant to services areas. Specialist Children's safeguarding knowledge. Restraint Reduction Network and RRP.
* Knowledge of the Mental Health Act.
* Fully developing staff potential through facilitating training, development, and education initiatives.
* Intermediate IT software experience internet based, databases, information systems and key MS office packages.
* Knowledge of the wider nursing agenda.
* Knowledge of management tools, organisational, systems and processes relevant to managing in an NHS organisation.
* Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and national drivers underpinning services for people with mental health problems.

* On-call nursing rota for Inpatient CAMHS.
* Able to work independently.
* Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
