Offer description

Important Details

At this stage the role is open to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB). Nursing vacancies are also open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses.

The NHS is changing. More emphasis on community-based care means there’s never been a better time to join us.

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Children’s Support Worker to join our professional team. You will be a core member of the Assessment and Intervention Nursery team based at The Orchards Nursery Milton Regis where you will observe, deliver care, both clinical and non‑clinical to children, and write up reports.

The nursery service is delivered to preschool‑aged children, mainly with a range of learning disabilities, but they may have physical difficulties too. The Nursery ethos is to assess children through observation in the assessment nursery and, if required, to move them into the intervention Nursery to enable progression using SMART targets.

Note: this vacancy does not meet the criteria for skilled worker sponsorship and therefore we are unable to accept applications from candidates that cannot provide documentary evidence of right to work in the United Kingdom.

Responsibilities

* Undertake a wide and varied range of clinical, administrative and supportive tasks as directed by the Team Leader of Children’s Short Breaks.
* Be involved in the assessment for children’s health and social care needs.
* Reflect upon and contribute to the review of care as part of the team.
* Be involved in the development and implementation of plans for the children and service.
* Work in partnership with other services to ensure children/young people and their families are offered advice, support and sign‑posting.

Daily Activities

* Two intervention sessions a day (four days a week) with a group of children shared with the nursery team.
* One day a week is set aside for the assessment nursery where you will observe a child and, at the end of six weeks, write up a report using a framework.
* Provide personal care.
* Write reports which are checked by a registered nurse.
* Facilitate play‑based activities to encourage development.
* Support with physiotherapy exercises.
* Support with speech & language plans.
* Support fluid and nutrition.
* Conduct risk assessments.

Diversity and Inclusion

We know a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion leads to better patient care and a happier workforce. We pride ourselves on being diverse and welcome applications from people with varied backgrounds, perspectives and experiences.

We ask for information about your protected characteristics on our application forms. This isn’t visible to anyone involved with shortlisting or interviewing you, except when you choose to be considered under the guaranteed interview scheme due to disability.

The data we collect helps us ensure we are attracting diversity in our applicants, that all our colleagues have equitable access to career opportunities and supports us on our journey to being a Great Place to Work.

Flexible Working

As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want you to be able to work in a way that is best for us, for our patients and for you. Talk to us about a flexible working arrangement that won’t involve sacrificing time for personal interests or family commitments. We’ll support you to work flexibly in a way that suits us both.

Applications

We strongly encourage colleagues in clinical and non‑clinical roles who have direct or social contact with patients to be fully vaccinated. To apply, please complete the application form or request an alternative format. All information supplied on your application should, to the best of your knowledge, be true and accurate.

Still have questions? The recruiting manager is available to discuss the role. Contact details can be found in the job advert.

We can receive a lot of applications for some roles, so to maximise your chance of being shortlisted, please apply as soon as possible. A vacancy may close early if there is a lot of interest.

Closing Date

This advert closes on Monday 2 March 2026.
