Health & Safety Manager
Location: Newbury, West BerkshireSalary: £45,000–£50,000Contract: Full-Time, PermanentReports to: Managing Director
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive Health & Safety Manager to lead compliance and foster a strong safety culture across our operations. This is a hands‑on leadership role, ideal for an experienced H&S professional from recycling or other technical sectors.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement the company’s health and safety strategy, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and industry standards (WEEE, HSE, Environment Agency).
* Conduct site risk assessments, safety inspections, and environmental/fire safety audits.
* Prepare and maintain method statements and safe systems of work for:
o Mechanical and manual recycling activities
o Manual handling of assets
o Hazardous waste storage and disposal
* Investigate incidents and near‑misses, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions.
* Deliver staff training, inductions, toolbox talks, and refresher sessions.
* Liaise with regulators, auditors, and environmental bodies.
* Oversee health surveillance, PPE compliance, and COSHH requirements.
What We’re Looking For
* Essential: NEBOSH National General Certificate; Preferred: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
* 3–5 years’ experience in health and safety management within technical, waste, or industrial environments.
* Strong knowledge of WEEE regulations, H&S at Work Act, RIDDOR, PUWER, and COSHH.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
* Methodical, hands‑on approach with a passion for building a “safety‑first” culture.
