Our client, a leading manufacturing company based in the Scottish Borders, is seeking a permanent Control & Instrumentation Technician to join their maintenance team. This role involves developing, installing, managing, and maintaining sophisticated control and instrumentation systems across the plant, with a focus on ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and reliability.
The successful candidate will be responsible for fault diagnosis, system modifications, and proactive maintenance activities, supporting the continuous improvement of plant assets. You will work closely with the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation department to implement safety standards, optimise control systems, and contribute to operational excellence in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
* Ideally have a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in electrical, control, or instrumentation engineering/engineering technology.
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in control and instrumentation maintenance within the paper or a similar manufacturing industry.
* Experience with control systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), with Siemens PCS7 being advantageous.
* Knowledge of Advanced Process Control (APC), asset management systems, and maintenance planning.
* Familiarity with health and safety regulations, including the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, and best practices in maintaining control and instrument systems.
* Strong troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and documentation skills, alongside good organisational and communication abilities.
* A proactive, motivated approach with a willingness to train others and operate within a multi-disciplinary team.
