Senior School IT Technician – Tunbridge Wells
Type: Full-time, Permanent (52 weeks per year)
Salary: Kent Range D (£26,393 per annum)
Overview
The Senior School IT Technician is responsible for supporting the use of IT across the school by maintaining software, hardware, and related equipment, and providing support to staff and students to maximise administration and learning outcomes. Within the IT department, the Senior Network Technician will work closely with the Network Manager to manage the IT infrastructure and systems across both campuses.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Technical Support: Provide first and second line support to end users, troubleshoot advanced technical issues, accelerate where necessary, and provide training or assistance to Junior IT Technicians, staff, and students.
* Network Management: Configure and deploy firewalls and managed switches, supporting network infrastructure.
* Mobile Devices: Manage mobile devices across multiple operating systems (Windows, macOS, iOS).
* Asset Management: Maintain an up‑to‑date asset register across the IT estate; purchase equipment following procurement policies.
* Software Support: Maintain installed software on school devices using remote deployment tools.
* Communication Systems: Deploy and maintain the school’s telephony and PA systems.
* Cloud Services: Maintain and provision access/accounts for cloud services used by the school.
* Security: Maintain hardware and software for data security, including enterprise malware solutions and firewalls.
* Safeguarding: Assist the Designated Safeguarding Lead team with reports from safeguarding/filtering software.
* Professional Development: Stay current with legislation, research, developments in educational technology, and ongoing training.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Level 3 Diploma (or equivalent) in IT
Experience
* Proven experience in an IT environment working with relevant software and networks.
* Experience in education is desirable.
Skills & Abilities
* Strong verbal communication skills for staff and students at all levels.
* Understanding of Health and Safety issues relating to IT.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of a range of IT systems, software packages, and network management.
* Full understanding of the Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act 2000, and Information Governance.
* Up to date with current technology, particularly in educational technology.
