TE Connectivity is seeking a Product Development Engineer to join the R&D Product Development Engineering team in Hastings. This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on both new product development and support of existing connector product lines including Autosport and commercial aviation.
The engineer will work throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through validation and production support. The role requires strong mechanical design capability, close collaboration with manufacturing, and use of formal engineering design tools.
Your main responsabilities
The Product Development Engineering team provide original design solutions for harsh environment electrical connectors. Main responsibilities include:
2. New product development of connector solutions to meet customer requirements. To be responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through to production and release. Generate all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications and testing requirements. Maintenance of BOM’s using a SAP system. To ensure that new products are ‘designed for manufacture’, facilitating manufacturing optimisation or product quality improvements, working closely with other departments. Support and maintain existing product lines, including product improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and lifecycle management. Apply structured engineering methodologies such as DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and DFSS (Design for Six Sigma). Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and meet quality, cost, and delivery targets. Support prototype builds, validation testing, and design verification activities. Participate in technical reviews, design reviews, and root cause analysis activities. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and internal engineering processes. Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering tools, processes, and best practices. Carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed by the business from time to time.
Your ideal background
3. HNC, HND, BSc or equivalent in Design, Mechanical / Electro Mechanical Engineering or a related subject.
4. Significant experience in the design and manufacture of precision engineered products.
5. Ability to think strategically, work effectively in cross-functional teams whilst managing the day to day demands.
6. Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
7. Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
8. Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines
9. Commercially and financially astute
10. Competency in using technical tools specific to the job function: e.g. CAD (Solidworks or Creo), CAE, industrial or quality engineering tools.
11. Basic knowledge of general engineering tools (LEAN or 6-sigma) such as DoE, FMEA, QFD, etc.
12. Knowledge of EMC / filtering or electrical engineering
13. Experience of Design for Sustainability initiatives
