This full‑time post is for a Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry, primarily focused on General Adult patients. The role is currently covered by a substantive consultant who will retire in July 2026. The team includes an experienced Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry who will support the post holder. The doctor must be on the specialist register for General Adult Psychiatry (other sub‑specialties may be considered in exceptional circumstances).
This post is based at Princess Alexandra Hospital (CM201QX). The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership for the assessment and management of adult patients aged 18 to 70 admitted to the hospital, and will act as the Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act. The post holder is also expected to provide input to patients of all ages held by the service if required.
Responsibilities
Provide clinical leadership for the assessment and management of adult patients (18–70 years) admitted to Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Act as the Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act.
Offer specialist psychiatric input to patients of all ages held by the service.
Support multidisciplinary teams and promote high‑quality care and safety.
Engage in continuing professional development, education, and research opportunities in partnership with the medical school at ARU and other educational establishments.
Qualifications
Full GMC registration and membership on the Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry.
Appropriate Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent, or within six months of obtaining a CCT on the date of application.
Experience as a Liaison Psychiatric Consultant; other sub‑specialties may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership and management of patients.
