Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Highway Maintenance Ganger to join our NMC North East Account in Forfar.

Our NMC NE Account, awarded to us in 2022, supports Transport Scotland. This account aims to improve service levels on the trunk road network, ensuring consistent, predictable, and reliable journeys for road users. The work includes maintenance, road safety, bridges and structures, and discrete improvement schemes, aligned with Scottish Government’s climate change and sustainability targets. We will also implement an enhanced winter and incident response service, improve communications, and introduce new technologies for better management of trunk network assets and maintenance activities.

The Highway Maintenance Ganger plays a vital role in constructing minor and major civils schemes, as well as routine maintenance activities.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role involves overtime, participation in on-call rotas, and night shifts when required.

You will be responsible for:

* Undertaking all aspects of highway maintenance, including drainage, kerbing, and other civils schemes.
* Leading a squad and working closely with other gangers.
* Completing scheme records such as daily site diaries and measurement records to a high standard.
* Driving/operating vehicles and plant, ensuring vehicle checks, routine maintenance, and cleaning are performed.
* Winter Maintenance, including emergency call-outs and standby duties.
* Prioritizing safety for yourself and your team.

What makes this role unique is: If you join our team, you'll have the opportunity to focus on the parts of your role you enjoy most—whether that’s further training, building relationships with clients, or developing leadership skills. Our environment fosters collaboration and support, empowering you to shape your career.

It would be ideal if you have previous winter experience and a valid HGV Class 2 license. HGV training can be provided if suitable for the right candidate.

It would be desirable if you have previous civils, trade, or street works experience to help you start effectively.
