SALARY – Competitive, dependent on experience
My client is developing next-generation mass data storage hardware using pioneering holographic technology. They are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join their West London team on a permanent basis.
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:
* Degree-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline
* Around 8 years of relevant industry experience within mechanical engineering, precision hardware, or mechanical systems
* Experience leading the delivery of mechanical systems, subsystems, or significant mechanical workstreams
* Strong understanding of mechanical tolerances, repeatability requirements, and verification methods
* Experience integrating mechanical systems beyond isolated component design
* Hands-on experience building, testing, debugging, and improving mechanical hardware
* Familiarity with mechanical failure modes relating to wear, alignment, tension, friction, or material handling
* Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams during system integration
* Ability to document technical requirements, risks, test methods, and engineering decisions clearly
* Exposure to production environments, supplier coordination, or manufacturing-focused design
* Excellent communication, organisation, and technical leadership skills
* Experience with precision mechanical systems, motion control, or positioning mechanisms would be advantageous
* Experience supporting products through EVT, DVT, PVT, or production launch phases would be beneficial
The Lead Mechanical Engineer role will involve:
* Taking technical ownership of a key mechanical workstream within the media handling system
* Establishing mechanical tolerances, repeatability requirements, and verification methods
* Developing test methods, rigs, and verification approaches for tape movement and positioning
* Reducing technical risks relating to tape positioning, path control, and system repeatability
* Supporting drive system integration and resolving mechanical risks through structured build and test activities
* Improving life-test methods and assessing tape management behaviour under operating conditions
* Peer reviewing mechanical designs, test plans, and verification evidence
* Guiding engineers technically and supporting wider engineering workstreams
* Working closely with mechanical, mechatronics, electronics, and controls teams
* Supporting the transition from prototype through to production and launch
The company are offering:
* 25 days annual leave
* A collaborative and highly technical working environment
