As a design engineer, you'll develop ideas for new products and production systems. You'll also improve the performance and efficiency of existing products. Candidates should ideally have a degree and a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience. However, candidates with other qualifications and significant experience in engineering design are also encouraged to apply.
The Role
1. Design: Turning research ideas into detailed production designs and re-engineering existing designs for better manufacturability.
2. Reporting: Writing or presenting engineering reports, producing specifications and drawings.
3. Knowledge & Compliance: Understanding trailer legislation, safety standards, and applying good practice standards.
4. Mentoring & Collaboration: Mentoring junior engineers and sharing experience in design reviews.
5. Continuous Improvement: Applying methodologies like Lean Manufacturing to improve work practices.

Qualifications & Skills
* Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
* Practical, hands-on approach.
* Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk products.
* Knowledge of MS Office and in-house systems.
* Understanding of stress/loading calculations, FEA, fatigue, and induced stress.
* Good grasp of engineering and design principles.
* Knowledge of trailer manufacturing processes or similar heavy engineering applications.
* Awareness of customer needs and cost impacts of design ideas.
* Willingness to work outside normal hours when necessary.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to produce high-quality designs.
* Honesty, punctuality, and dependability.
* Awareness of health and safety policies.
* Legal right to work in the United Kingdom; evidence will be required.
