Health & Safety Officer Full time [37.5hrs/wk]/ Permanent / Ref: HSO/05/25
Hours of work: 9.00am to 5.00pm / Monday to Friday

We are looking to appoint a Health & Safety Officer to join our team. This position can be based from our Portadown depot, but due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate must be willing to travel to other sites throughout the group and third-party sites, as required.

Purpose of the Job
The Health & Safety Officer will support the Group Health & Safety Manager and the wider EHS team in developing and implementing effective H&S plans and procedures across the Company, ensuring full legislative compliance. They will promote a zero-harm culture through proactive H&S obligations, ensuring statutory and operational adherence while maintaining the highest safety standards for employees.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. Manage and ensure continuous compliance with ISO standards and all internal business processes, policies, procedures, and systems included in the company's Integrated Management System (IMS).
2. Ensure legal compliance with all H&S legislation and effectively manage all H&S risks and hazards.
3. Conduct incident/accident investigations and complete root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
4. Perform regular site inspections to verify correct implementation of policies and procedures.
5. Carry out risk assessments to identify risks and ensure effective control measures are in place.
6. Support the development and continuous improvement of H&S programmes, policies, and guidelines, in line with KPIs.
7. Plan, develop, and deliver H&S training across the company to ensure legal compliance.
8. Promote a positive H&S culture by providing support and guidance through meetings, briefings, etc.
9. Participate in personal development and role-specific training as required.
10. Be flexible in undertaking duties and carry out any other reasonable tasks as required.
Essential Criteria
* At least 2 years' experience in a health and safety role, including risk assessments, safety inspections, and incident management.
* NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (or working towards).
* Good knowledge of H&S legislation and codes of practice.
* Knowledge of IMS standards, ISO 9001:2015, ISO, and ISO.
* Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
* Excellent IT skills and experience with relevant software.
* Valid UK Driving Licence (max 6 points) and access to transport, as travel around depots and third-party sites is required.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in waste industry and workplace transport safety.
* Formal risk assessment training.
* Train the Trainer qualification.
