Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Lecturer in ESOL & Digital Skills to join the ESOL 16–18 department at Sandwell College on a fixed-term basis.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ESOL practitioner who is passionate about supporting learners within the further education sector. You will play a key role in delivering engaging and inclusive ESOL and Digital Skills provision to 16–18-year-old learners, supporting students to develop the language, numeracy and digital skills required for progression into further education, employment and everyday life.
Working closely with the Head of Section and wider curriculum team, you will contribute to the development of an innovative and inclusive curriculum that responds to the needs of learners, local communities, employers and external agencies. You will also support the delivery of enrichment and work experience opportunities that enhance students’ overall learning experience and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across ESOL and Digital Skills programmes from Pre-Entry Level to Level 1.
* Deliver engaging lessons in ESOL, Entry Level Maths and Functional Skills ICT in line with awarding body requirements.
* Undertake course leadership and personal tutor responsibilities, supporting learners academically and pastorally.
* Develop innovative teaching materials using Information Learning Technology (ILT), Moodle and multimedia learning resources.
* Participate in curriculum planning, development and quality improvement activities.
* Organise and participate in enrichment activities including educational visits, residential trips, guest speakers and work experience opportunities.
* Liaise effectively with parents, carers, social workers, support workers, employers and external agencies to support learner progression and wellbeing.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* An ESOL subject specialism or willingness to work towards one.
* A teaching qualification such as a Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification, or willingness to achieve one.
* Experience teaching ESOL and Entry Level Maths within a further education or adult learning environment.
* Experience delivering “Skills for Life” programmes within the Qualification and Curriculum Authority framework.
* Experience teaching Entry Level Functional Skills ICT or Digital Skills qualifications.
* Experience of internal verification and moderation processes.
* Experience working collaboratively with external agencies and support organisations.
Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding
To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:
* DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
* Certificate in Education
* PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
* ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
* DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
* DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).

* PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
* CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
* CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
